Windows VPS hosting – use cases, licensing & costs
Published on 20 June 2026
Not every application runs on Linux. If you rely on Microsoft technology, you need a Windows VPS – a virtual server with a Windows Server operating system and full administrator access via Remote Desktop (RDP).
Typical use cases
- Remote desktop workstations and terminal servers
- MS SQL Server, Microsoft Access and other Windows databases
- .NET applications and IIS web servers
- Industry software available only for Windows
Licensing
The Windows Server operating system requires a license. Clarify upfront whether the license is included in the plan or licensed separately (e.g. SPLA for hosting). We advise you on the correct, compliant licensing.
Performance & foundation
Our Windows vServers run on KVM virtualization with guaranteed resources and pure NVMe storage – which makes a clear difference for RDP responsiveness and database I/O. IPv4/IPv6 and built-in DDoS protection are included.
What to look for
- Plan for enough RAM for RDP sessions and databases
- Enable backups – especially for production Windows workloads
- A Germany location for GDPR-compliant data storage
Configure your server right on the vServer page or compare the pricing.
